Office of Acquisitions Mission Statement

About Us

Located in the Division of Extramural Activities, the NIAID Office of Acquisitions (OA) supports the Institute’s mission by providing a complete range of acquisition support services for the conduct of basic and applied research to better understand, treat, and ultimately prevent infectious, immunologic, and allergic diseases. NIAID OA is one of ten NIH Consolidated Operations Acquisition Centers employing contracting professionals with expertise in various types of acquisitions ranging from micro-purchases to multi-million dollar negotiated contracts for complex R&D projects. OA is also committed to adhering to acquisition policies, procedures, and regulations, as promulgated by the NIH Head of Contracting Activity (HCA) and the NIH Office of Acquisition Management and Policy (OAMP).

OA Mission

To improve public health by providing sound business advice to extramural and intramural scientific partners in support of the NIAID mission through planning, soliciting, negotiating, awarding, and administering biomedical and behavioral research and development (R&D) contracts, contracts for the direct support of R&D, station support contracts, and simplified acquisitions.

OA accomplishes its mission by:

  • Providing customer service to offerors/contractors and NIAID program staff that meets their needs promptly and efficiently.
  • Fostering positive relationships with NIAID program staff and contractors by building trust and ensuring open communications.
  • Keeping both internal and external customers informed throughout the acquisition process.
  • Proactively administering contracts to ensure that NIAID acquisitions achieve stated objectives.
  • Providing expert business management and advice and acquisition support to NIAID divisions that oversee research programs.
  • Promoting creative acquisition strategies while providing effective stewardship of tax dollars by using sound business judgment, maintaining a high ethical standards, and adhering to acquisition policies, procedures, and regulations.
